Current Sacramento City Councilmember Kevin McCarty is currently running for his third straight term in District 6, and he recently sat down with two of the hosts of the Sacramento Current podcast to talk about the state of the city and his plans for the office should he be reelected. You can hear the interview for yourself by clicking the file above.
If you’re to familiar with Councilmember McCarty, here is his statement from the city’s election website:
As your Councilmember I have striven to make our neighborhoods a better place to live by improving our parks, fighting to keep our community centers open and cracking down on absentee landlords who neglect their property. Improving our neighborhoods means keeping our streets safe. I wrote tough and effective laws giving our police the necessary tools to get illegal guns off our streets and partnered with schools to get chronic truants back into the classroom. Today we face even greater challenges – budget cuts, school closures and record unemployment. Working with Mayor Johnson I launched a revolutionary “Go Green Sacramento” effort to incentivize energy efficiency upgrades and spur clean energy jobs. I’ve pushed for common sense reforms to ensure that our city government works more efficiently, including the creation of an Independent Auditor. I’ve called for an Ethics Commission and a Whistleblower Hotline to report waste, fraud and abuse. My wife, Leticia, and I are committed to our community. We are raising our daughters here and I want to make sure the decisions I make today do not end up costing our children in the future. I will continue to ask tough questions and fight for the right priorities for Sacramento.
